Both Amy Seabright and Anna Carpenter were young sailing stars, winning numerous junior and youth medals between them.
Essex’s Seabright excelled helming two-person dinghies, while Carpenter rose through the ranks in the singlehanded Laser Radial fleet.
It wasn’t until 2013, with their university studies complete, that Seabright and Carpenter joined forces, forming ‘The A Team’ for their tilt at Olympic gold in the two-person 470 class.
It was a steep learning curve for Carpenter, who had to learn how fly a spinnaker and to trapeze off the side of the boat, but before too long the duo were proving they could compete with the world’s best.
They consistently place within the top ten at international regattas and have their sights firmly set on Tokyo 2020.
The person Carpenter says has had the most influence on her sailing career? One Amy Seabright.
