From very different beginnings the two Sophie’s have formed a strong partnership throughout multiple fleets.
Weguelin was introduced to sailing by her father who had built the family Mirror – she hated the experience. Ainsworth joined her father and brother sailing the Optimist at the age of 10 and enjoyed it.
Fast forward to the present day and the pair have a history of success when they join forces. Teaming up to take on the 420, Weguelin and Ainsworth then moved across to the 29er where they claimed the 2007 Ladies and U19 World title and a Youth Worlds silver in the same year.
Returning to dinghy competition the pair added the 470 European title to their resume in 2012 before they went their separate ways. Weguelin would continue in the 470 fleet while Ainsworth would switch to the newly added 49erFX for the Rio 2016 cycle.
Ainsworth would go on to represent Great Britain at the Rio Games with Charlotte Dobson, but now Weguelin has returned to skiff racing the pair aim to take on Tokyo 2020 together.
