John Gimson has been a formidable force on the Olympic circuit for more than a decade across a wide range of classes from 470 dinghies to Tornado catamarans, Star keelboats to the foiling Nacra 17 multihull.

With his first taste of sailing on GP14s with his dad at Redesmere Sailing Club near Macclesfield, Gimson soon got the racing bug when he stepped onboard the National 12s at Rudyard Lake Sailing Club.

In 2001 he was crowned youth national champion in the 29er class, and came runner-up at the class world and European championships, paving the way for a glittering senior career. Gimson showed his versatility as a sail racer winning 420 national titles around the same time as part of a mixed crew with future Olympic gold medallist Pippa Wilson.

Burnet spent four years campaigning the 470 alongside British Sailing Team and best friend athlete Flora Stewart before making the jump into the high performance Olympic classes in 2016.

Gimson and Burnet teamed up the same year and have since proven themselves a skilled crew, capable of world-class performances.
