Helm Rupert White and crew Kirstie Urwin have had very different paths through sailing before coming together as team. Whilst White has raced multihulls throughout his youth pathway Urwin has had the experience of crewing in different classes.
The pair were both introduced to sailing at a young age by their families and both have experience stepping on to the podium at youth level, but that’s where the similarities end.
White claimed the Sirena SL16 Open World title in 2012, the same month he took the Youth Worlds in the same class crossing paths with future team mate Urwin who was taking bronze in the 420 at the same event.
From there White would simply continue on the Olympic multihull pathway by moving in to the Nacra 17 fleet. Urwin took a 420 European title before moving up to the 470, then in to the 49erFX and then across to the Nacra 17, all while completing her degree in Psychology with Sports Science at the University of Exeter.
