WHAT THEY SAID:

  • Dylan Fletcher, 30, Thames Ditton, Surrey (49er):
“It was actually our first day of racing today – we had three races in classic Palma conditions and it was a pretty good day. We had a bit of a track record of the first race of the regatta being our worst, and we’ve worked really hard at remedying that. The goal is always to win but we’re aware that it’s going to be a tricky week.”
  • Stuart Bithell, 32, Rochdale, Greater Manchester (49er):
”We’ve been really working on getting out of regattas sharply – it’s been one of our downfalls over our partnership – so we’re really happy to have had three good starts and good pace. We actually went out saying we were going to play it safe and not to try to win but we ended up having a really good day. It’s just the start of a long regatta so we need to keep pushing but hopefully by the end of the week we’ll be in good shape.”
  • Lorenzo Chiavarini, 25, Bellanoch Bay, Argyll (Laser):
“Another day of sea breeze here in Palma with 8-10 knots of pretty shifty breeze. It was quite hard but I managed to get two good starts and had good speed around the course. I finished qualifying with four consistent results, so I’m very happy going into the finals. It’s going to be tough in gold fleet though, and we’ll all be fighting for every metre.”
  • Andy Brown, 19, Glasgow (men’s RS:X):
“Great day at the Princess Sofia Trophy. I am showing some good form and some great gains from the last training block, which is exactly what I want going into my European Championships next week. The race win in marginal conditions is fabulous as that has been my main focus point during the last training block.”
