The British Sailing Team have started their journey to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as the first athletes touch down in Tokyo.

As the summer showpiece draws ever closer, an advanced party of support staff welcome the first of the competing sailors to Japan.

Sailors including debutants Emma Wilson and Tom Squires and Olympic medallists Stu Bithell and Luke Patience donned their new Team GB kit to step aboard British Airways flights bound for Tokyo.

Before leaving sailors took to social media to thank some of the people who have got them to this point and say goodbye to their nearest and dearest, like 470 sailor Chris Grube who waved goodbye to his wife Megan and son Bear before his two month Olympic adventure.

Although, it didn’t take long for Dylan Fletcher to get comfortable onboard the BA flight as obvious excitement was beginning to build in what is the culmination of a now five year cycle.

And it took the windsurfers even less time to see the Enoshima venue where they will take their first tilt at an Olympic Games medal.
