Micky Beckett crowned European Champion in Marstrand

European gold and u23 victory for British sailors in Sweden
The British Sailing Team celebrated a golden weekend at the 2025 ILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy in Marstrand, Sweden, as Micky Beckett stormed to the ILCA 7 European title.
Delivering a superb performance the 29-year-old Welshman, who represented Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has been a stand-out ILCA 7 performer in recent years, with multiple European medals, silver at the 2023 World Championships, and three consecutive Trofeo Princesa Sofía titles to his name.
Commenting on his result, Beckett states: “Winning my second Euros is an awesome feeling; it’s still sinking in to be honest.
"The Worlds in May didn’t at all go to plan for me, and I was very quick to target winning the Europeans straight off the back of that disappointment. It feels awesome to have the hard work pay off and come back to the front of the fleet.
"The last day in Marstrand was sunny with decent wind and waves. I was sailing in with a big smile on my face, thinking, ‘This is exactly why I do this ‘- racing the best in the world in great conditions... it was cool. It was also great to see Fin on the European podium. He’s sailed very well this year and so, I can’t say it was a total surprise, but as ever, it’s great see our squad working so well.”
Teammate Fin Dickinson also showed his skill and determination, claiming his first senior international medal. Competing against a world-class fleet, Dickinson finished fifth overall and secured the title of ILCA 7 Under-23 European Champion, as well as the bronze medal in the senior European Championship standings. The performance marks a major milestone in Dickinson’s career and reiterates his status as one of Britain’s rising stars in the ILCA 7 class.
